Limon Restaurant Isla Mujeres Review: The Best Expensive Seafood
Limon is one of the better seafood restaurants in the south of the island. The restaurant is managed by Sergio Martinez, who has been cooking and grilling here since 2012. In this Limon restaurant Isla Mujeres review, we’ll look at what the restaurant has to offer, what prices they charge, and why this restaurant deserves a spot on our list of the best restaurants in Isla Mujeres. Let’s dive in!
Limon Restaurant Menu: What to Order

Sergio is known for his seafood; the lobster and coconut shrimp are favorites of many guests, but there’s also ribeye, hibiscus flower tacos, or gnocchi if you’re in the mood for something different.
In terms of drinks, you’ll get the basics here. There are different kinds of national beers, there are basic cocktails, and there’s the house wine.
Pro tip: Keep in mind that if you want to order lobster, you have to let the restaurant know beforehand to ensure availability.
Isla Mujeres Limon Restaurant Prices: Is It Worth It?
One thing to note about Limon is that it’s not a place where you should go if you’re on a budget. Main courses start at 310 pesos ($15.5 USD, pasta pesto) and go all the way to 900 pesos ($45 USD, filet mignon with four chilli sauce).
In terms of drinks, there are different kinds of national beers for 70 pesos ($3.5 USD), there are cocktails for 180 pesos ($9 USD), and there’s the house wine, which is 200 pesos ($10 USD) for a glass and 750 pesos ($37.5 USD) for a bottle. Nothing spectacular, but all reasonably priced for island standards.
The pricing is the only point of criticism that I have read about Limon, that sometimes guests don’t feel the food quite lives up to the price. However, let it be said that those voices are the minority.
Also, it’s important to note that the restaurant is cash only.
Best Time to Visit Limon Restaurant
Limon has quite interesting opening times. The restaurant is only open during the week (Monday to Friday), and only from 4 PM to 11 PM. As expected, Fridays are the busiest days of the week. If you’re going to dine here as a couple, there’s no need to make a reservation because the restaurant is almost always large enough.
However, if you’re coming with a group, I definitely would. Also because the restaurant is run by Sergio and his wife, and this means that you want to give them time to prepare to deliver the optimal experience.
What the Atmosphere Is Really Like at Isla Mujeres Limon Restaurant

On the outside, the restaurant doesn’t seem like it’s going to be much; there are some small palm trees in pots and a grey sliding door through which you enter. However, once inside, you’ll notice the interior is very quaint and cozy; we’re talking black chairs, red walls, and wooden accents.
There are different floors in the restaurant, and depending on the day, you’ll be seated on the upper or the ground floor. If you’re the only one sitting on the upper floor, it can feel a bit lonely, another reason why I would recommend making a reservation.
Vegetarian, Vegan, and Dietary Options at Limon Restaurant
Limon has quite an extensive menu. This means that vegetarians, vegans, and gluten-free people will always find something to eat. For vegetarians, this means bruschetta as an appetizer, and sopa de tortilla, pasta with tomato sauce, cheese sauce, or pasta pesto, and tacos de jamaica are all options.
For vegans, tacos de jamaica are a good call, and there are several pasta dishes for which you can ask to take out the cheese. For gluten-free eaters, there are plenty of meat and fish dishes, as well as salads, that don’t contain any gluten.
Location of Isla Mujeres Limon Restaurant: How to Get There Easily
Limon restaurant Isla Mujeres, is located all the way south in the middle of the island. This means that, if you’re staying in the north, you’ll have to take a 10-15 minute cab or golf cart ride. If you do take a cab, keep in mind that this ride will cost you around 200 pesos ($10 USD). There’s a chance the taxis will try to overcharge you, trust me when I say 200 pesos is more than enough.
On your way back, you’ll have to find a taxi on one of the busier roads again. When you exit the restaurant, walk left along Avenida Isla Contoy until you get to Avenida Rueda Medina. This is the street where you’re most likely to find a taxi.
How Limon Compares to Other Dinner Spots
Limon is a restaurant mainly focused on seafood and meat lovers who are looking for a bit of a fine-dining experience. There are not many restaurants on Isla Mujeres that offer this combination of food quality, ambiance, and server-friendliness. However, Limon definitely does.
Compared to restaurants like Lola Valentina, Limon definitely isn’t as easy-going, and the mixology at Lola Valentina is miles better. However, although it’s a nice restaurant, you won’t find the attention to detail in both the ambiance and the food at Lola.
On the other end of the spectrum, we’ve got Bastos Grill, a local place in the south of the island, but it’s far from a fine-dining experience. In short, Limon is the restaurant where you go if you want good seafood combined with a high level of service.
