Mango Cafe Review: Best Breakfast in Isla Mujeres?

Is Mango Cafe one of the best breakfast options in Isla Mujeres? Yesterday marked the second time in a week that I ate breakfast at Mango Cafe. It’s an incredibly popular spot on the island, and I want to do my best to ensure you have a clear image of what to expect.

For that reason, I’ve written down my experience of having breakfast in Mango Cafe below. We’ll discuss the menu, the vibe, how busy it really gets, the quality of the food, and whether it’s worth eating here. Enjoy!

Isla Mujeres Mango Cafe Menu: What to Order

What I like about Mango Cafes’ menu is that they don’t try to overcomplicate things. The drinks menu is as basic as it gets, and the breakfast and lunch menus only feature a handful of dishes. One good thing is that they do these dishes very well.

Drinks – All The Necessary Basics

When we look at the drinks menu, we see the usual suspects. There are some basic juices, smoothies, mimosas, margaritas, and beers. There’s also a wide variety of coffee available.

When it comes to coffee, I’ve had both the Americano and the organic coffee from the Chiapas region with cinnamon. In Mexico, this coffee is also known as ‘café de olla’. The Americano was good and strong, and the café de olla was of good quality as well. In terms of quality, I prefer the Americano.

The nice thing about the café de olla is that it’s a free refill. They’ve got a coffee station in the upstairs and downstairs areas where you can grab a mug and keep refilling as much as you want. That, I do enjoy.

I’ve also tried the orange juice here. Like all orange juices in Mexico, they add extra sugar to it. I’m not going to say it tastes bad, because it’s delicious, but if you’re expecting fresh juice without added sugar, please communicate that with the staff.

Food – A Couple Of Classics Done Right

The food is great. I’m a creature of habit, so I ordered the same thing twice: their ‘world-famous’ French toast. I don’t know if it’s world-famous, but it sure is good. It comes with plenty of maple syrup and some cut fruits such as banana, apple, and papaya. I happily ate it twice.

My girlfriend ordered two different things the times we came here: huevos rancheros and the vegetarian enfrijoladas. She told me she enjoyed the huevos rancheros more than the enfrijoladas.

We also went here with another couple once; they ordered the Mayan scramble and the chilaquiles. From their report, I know that this is also good food.

The good thing about Mango Cafe seems to be that all their dishes reach a certain quality threshold. That means, no matter what you order, it will definitely be good.

Isla Mujeres Mango Cafe Prices: Is It Worth It?

One of the things that I think has contributed a lot to the success of Mango Cafe is the fact that their prices are more than reasonable. As you were able to see from the pictures of the menu, almost all their breakfast dishes are below 200 pesos ($10 USD).

Lunch is a little bit pricier if you’re going for the steak or shrimp options, but if you don’t, it’s still all around 200 pesos.

When we look at the drink prices, the same image occurs. Coffee is going to set you back 50 to 60 pesos ($2.5 – $3 USD), and a little later in the day, beers have the same prices. There are also plenty of cocktails that start at 115 pesos ($5.75 USD), which is surprisingly good value overall for a breakfast restaurant on Isla Mujeres.

Last time we ate here, we had an Americano, a café de olla (free refill), an orange juice, a French toast, and vegetarian enfrijoladas. With a 15% tip our total was 609 pesos ($30 USD). Incredibly reasonable in my opinion.

As said, I ate here twice on the 10th of March (Tuesday) and on the 21st of March 2026 (Saturday). The first time, we met our friends at 9 AM at the restaurant. It was really busy, but Mango Cafe is also quite big for a breakfast place in Isla Mujeres. On top of that, it’s not in the city center, which means it’s not that busy. We just had a table of four people leave, and we were first in line, so we were seated right away.

The second time, we showed up a little later at 11 AM. We were second in line, but were still seated within 5 minutes.

How quickly you’ll find a spot depends on the season and how big your group is. January to April is high season in Isla Mujeres. Expect to have some waiting time when you get to the restaurant (5-10 minutes max). If you show up outside of high season, I would think you’d be seated immediately.

Now, the restaurant is quite big, but it doesn’t have a lot of tables for very large groups (6+). If this is you, it might be worth taking into account some extra time or reserving a spot beforehand.

What the Atmosphere Is Really Like

The vibe in Mango Cafe, for how busy it can get, is quite relaxed overall. The staff has been very friendly to us the two times we were here, and they don’t seem stressed at all. That contributes to the overall good feeling of the place.

The interior itself is rustic and quite nicely decorated. On the ground floor, there are a bunch of sturdy wooden tables and chairs. The ceilings are decorated with colorful little flags, and there’s a plethora of items hanging on the wall.

When you take the stairs to go to the next floor, you’ll find an area that feels more spacious and has a lot more light. There are some wall paintings and a variety of different lamps hanging from the ceiling.

In the morning, the sun can shine directly on this terrace. However, to make sure you’re not being cooked alive, the restaurant has sun protection. They take this away when the sun isn’t shining directly on the terrace. At that point, you’ll be sitting in the open air enjoying your breakfast. Again, it’s all very enjoyable.

There’s some music playing in the background the whole time, but the nice thing about Mango Cafe is that it’s not loud at all (a problem in many Mexican restaurants).

Finally, the crowd here mainly consists of tourists and expats, mixed with some locals.

Vegetarian, Vegan, and Dietary Options

If you’re looking for a vegan, vegetarian, or gluten-free breakfast, Mango Cafe has got you covered. I’m a vegetarian myself, and so is my girlfriend.

As said before, we’ve been able to try three different dishes (French toast, enfrijoladas, and the Huevos Rancheros) so far. The Mayan scramble, yoghurt bowl, chilaquiles, and omelette are all still options that we could have on the breakfast menu. For the lunch menu, we’re either looking at the Mango Cafe salad or the veggie quesadillas

If you’re vegan, I’m happy to report that the vegetarian enfrijoladas also have a vegan option. The Mango cafe salad is the only option for the lunch menu.

The other couple we ate with the first time also had a gluten-free preference for one of them. All the Mexican dishes on the menu use corn tortillas and don’t have any grain products. On top of that, the yoghurt bowl is an option for the breakfast menu.

Is Mango Cafe Isla Mujeres Good for Remote Work or Long Breakfasts?

Mango Cafe isn’t really the best place to do some remote work or take your sweet time to have breakfast. Especially between the hours of 8 – 10 AM and 12 – 3 PM, the restaurant gets really busy. The tables are needed for other guests.

Don’t get me wrong, this doesn’t mean the staff hurries you out the door, but take into account that they make a living off their tips, and getting more people through the door is a big plus for them.

If you do want to take it a bit easier, try showing up between 10 AM and 12 PM. The other day, we showed up at 11 AM and by the time it was 11:30 AM, there were some empty tables around us. I’m sure nobody minds it then if you take your time to have breakfast.

Location of Mango Cafe: How to Get There Easily

How you’re going to get to Mango Cafe depends on where you’re staying on the island. Mango Cafe is located in the middle of the island, an 8-minute drive away from the city center. This is the exact location on Google Maps.

If you have a golf cart, scooter, or bike, you can easily drive here yourself. Keep in mind that parking in Isla Mujeres is limited in general. You can park almost anywhere on the side of the road, though. So, drive around the neighbourhood to see if you can find a spot.

The other option is to take a taxi. From the northern part of the island, you can walk to the taxi terminal (location) and grab a taxi to the Mango Cafe. I would expect to pay 150 pesos for this journey. If you’re paying more, they’re overcharging you (and they do have a habit of doing so). Discuss the price in advance.

Getting a taxi to go back is also really easy. Mango Cafe is located on one of the main routes that taxis take to get back from the southern part of the island. After breakfast, just wave a taxi down when you’re done.

How Mango Cafe Compares to Other Breakfast Spots

There are many other breakfast places on Isla Mujeres that are worthy of a visit. However, personally, I definitely put Mango Cafe in my top three. That’s because the food is really good, the prices are very reasonable, and the service is friendly and quick.

This makes Mango Cafe a unique restaurant on the island. Most of the time, you’ll find that the restaurants only have two out of these three characteristics. Especially the prices, for how popular the restaurant is, are very reasonable.

If you’re looking for other options in the area, I highly recommend Mayakita as well. The food is equally as good here, but the view is a million times better because it has a direct ocean view.

If you’re in the northern part of the island, I recommend Mogagua (although that’s becoming a bit too pricey for my liking for the quality that they deliver) or Aroma Isla (it’s owned by the same owner that owns Mogagua). If you’re looking for a good budget spot in the north, Rubens is a good call.
